Church History

Our History

Bishop J. Phillip Betts is the Founder and Senior Pastor and his wife, Pastor Teresa Betts works along beside him and serves as the Pastor of Cornerstone Christian Community Church. Under the divine leading of the Holy Ghost, Word of Hope Ministry was birthed forth from this bible study ministry.

In that same year, Evangelist Betts had a vision to impact the community and the world at large by expanding the ministry and planting a church in Oxford, North Carolina. This was the beginning of the birthing of Cornerstone Christian Community Church. A building was found at 1203 N. Goshen Street, Oxford, NC and the plans were set in motion. Cornerstone Christian Community Church held its 1st service at that location on January 12, 1992.

God really moved in the ministry and the church began to grow and a larger space was needed. Through much prayer and seeking God, a plan was put in place to build a church. The new facility’s location was 3237 Knotts Grove, Oxford, North Carolina. The 1st service in the new facility was held on November 12, 1995.

God continued to grow the ministry and another expansion was needed, but this time the church as able to add-on to the existing building. After the construction was completed, the 1st service in the new sanctuary was held on August 3, 2008.
